Nicholas Mosse Pottery was established by Nicholas Mosse in 1976 after periods of training in England and Japan. His mission was to produce beautiful, functional pottery in the style of Irish Spongeware. Irish spongeware was the traditional pottery of Ireland used in the 18th Century. It was mainly made in simple honest shapes with a decoration applied with a cut sponge.
Established in 1998 by highly skilled craftsman John Ryan, O'Rian pottery is based in Ballymote, Sligo.
John makes both functional and decorative stoneware pottery, drawing inspiration from the surrounding rural landscape.
The our handmade and manually decorated stoneware is offered to consumers looking for a unique peice of pottery.
Paul Maloney Artisan Irish Craft Potter
All pieces of Paul Maloney Pottery are handthrown on the potters wheel, followed by a series of hand finishing techniques, then glazed and fired to 1100c. Design and Shape constantly evolve through the years to reflect Pauls thoughts on form and function.
"Craft Pottery, like Art is an ever changing practise, as designs and ideas are not set by the boundaries of a mould or machine. The term ‘unique’ has become clichéd, but here it is true – every piece is indeed, one of its kind."
Sara Roberts (b.1962, Cork) is a ceramicist living and working from her studio, near Kinsale, Co Cork, Ireland Roberts studied Graphic Design at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, from 1980-84 and graduated with a degree in Visual Communications. She worked in London, Australia and Ireland as a designer until 2000.
During 2000-2002 she undertook a City and Guilds one year course in Ceramics and was subsequently awarded a bursary at
Colaiste Stiofain Naofa, Cork, Ireland. She consequently set up her own studio and has been working in clay since.
"With a long design background, attention to imagery, form and presentation comes naturally. As a ceramicist, I enjoy the challenge of portraying my natural environment, the allure of its ever changing textures and colours, images actually created from their constituent parts, earth (clay), sand (glaze) rocks (pigments). My work often depicts expanses of sand, sea and sky, with distant horizons and detailed foregrounds creating a three-dimensional effect, a sense of calm isolation- drawing the viewer deep into the landscape and beyond."
