Nicholas Mosse Pottery Range

Nicholas Mosse Pottery was established by Nicholas Mosse in 1976. After periods of training in both England and Japan, his mission was to produce functional yet beautiful pottery, in the style of Irish Spongeware.
Irish Spongeware was the traditional pottery of Ireland which was used in the 18th Century. It was mainly made in simple honest shapes with a decoration applied with a cut sponge from which the patterns are applied to each piece of pottery. Each individual under goes a hand made process of 20 steps. The essence of Nicholas Mosse is to create with love and care a pottery collection which will mean something to the owner, each piece is individually crafted and each decorator or the pieces is personally trained by Nicholas Mosse himself to ensure consistency.

Based now in Bennettsbridge in County Kilkenny, Ireland the Nicholas Mosse pottery collection is created and designed in a historical mill which was purchased by the family and restored over time. Despite the mill burning to ground in 1985 the family restored the hydro electrical power of the mill to enable them to fire the pottery and the live and work in the same area today.

There are numerous ranges available from Nicholas Mosse including Old Rose, Clematis, Lawn, Landscape, Wild Flower Meadow, Winter Robin, Forget-me-not, Fuchsia, and Clover to name a few  with collectors of Nicholas Mosse knowing the Old Rose pattern the most, as it was the first pattern Nicholas designed and created.

Found in many a kitchen worldwide, the Old Rose collection has a distinct red rose sponge pattern making it a perfect choice to create a homely country cottage style kitchen, with rows of mugs hanging from hooks and plates adorning a wooden dresser. Add to this the various style of jugs from the mini one cup milk jug to the oversize extra large used for many an occasion from serving drink’s to displaying flowers
