Helen’s wall based ceramic illustrations are made in high-fired porcelain. Each piece is delicately cut, constructed and fired before a metal oxide wash is lightly brushed across the image, to capture form and depth. After this, a rich range of under-glaze colour is painted on and a transparent glaze added, before the second firing. The piece is then completed in a third firing, with the application of 24 carat gold lustre, to enhance detail and reflect light.
Helen’s work weave’s a subtle narrative from the colours and forms found in the rural environment of Co. Antrim.
“Tall grasses, delicate wild flowers and sculptural seed heads can all be seen in the hedges and fields where I live. By adding creatures, a landscape becomes a story.”
The image is presented in a 11" x 11" black wood frame. due to the uniqueness of each peice there may be a slight variation in colour.
